RAS Security: a B2B webshop that keeps up with its installers

RAS Security's webshop is where Belgian security installers order their cameras, detectors and access-control gear, at their own prices, against live stock in SAP. WDDW took over the platform in early 2026, made it fast and stable within three weeks, and has been building new features on it since.

The project in 40 seconds

A webshop under growing pressure. Built up over the years and wired straight into SAP, the portal had become RAS's ordering desk. Traffic, catalogue size and bot load had grown faster than the platform was tuned for, and it was slowing down at exactly the moments installers needed it.

Keeping the ordering desk open

RAS Security is a Belgian distributor of camera surveillance, intruder detection, fire detection and access control products. From Kortrijk, with 45 staff, it supplies professional installers across Belgium, Luxembourg and France, trains them at RAS Academy, and sells its own Sefica brand.

Its website does the heavy lifting. Installers log in, see their negotiated prices, check stock, place orders, follow shipments, download invoices and book repairs, in Dutch or French. Every price and every order goes through SAP in real time. When the site slows down, so does RAS's business.

By early 2026 it was slowing down. The catalogue had grown past 15,000 products, automated scrapers made up two thirds of daily visitors, and every product price was a separate round trip to the ERP. Category pages could take up to 18 seconds to load, and at busy moments the site started going offline.

That is when RAS Security turned to WDDW.

We started with a week of forensics rather than a rewrite: profiling the production platform under real load to find out exactly where the time went. The answer was a handful of small problems compounding each other, and the fix was a series of small, reversible changes rather than one big release.

The first release went live within three weeks. Every change was logged with its impact and its risk, so RAS could follow along:

  • Database indexes and short-lived caches on the heaviest catalogue queries

  • Search that pages at the database instead of loading the whole catalogue into memory

  • Scraper traffic rejected at the door, with no effect on logged-in customers

  • Batched price calls to SAP, so a basket needs one request instead of one per item

  • Background jobs and server settings tuned so a busy moment cannot take the site down

With the platform stable, we worked through RAS's open bug list and then moved on to building. The biggest addition is Simkaarten: a new SIM-card offering for RAS's IoT customers, gated on a contract flag from SAP, with a one-time terms acceptance and a handoff to RAS's SIM portal. Live search suggestions, a redesigned highlights carousel and new RAS Academy event flows followed.

The result is a platform RAS can build on again.

Category pages that took up to 18 seconds now load in under a second. A search touches 24 products instead of the whole catalogue. Scrapers that used to be two thirds of the traffic are stopped before they reach the database. And every change since February is documented, with a deploy runbook so any team member can ship the next release.

The partnership continues. Simkaarten is live, and the next items on the roadmap are already in motion.
